Garhwal English Medium School

GEMS is a charitable school located in the Indian Himalaya. We educate over 200 students who come from over 25 villages in the area. These children would not have access to quality education if it were not for our school. We invite volunteers from around the world to come and teach in our school, and share their knowledge and skills with our children. We are in the business of providing children with skills and opportunities so they will have more choices in their lives and hopefully be able to rise out of poverty.

Skype in the classroom

Skype in the classroom is a free global education platform which enables teachers to connect with each other and guest speakers on Skype to create interactive learning experiences.

Wikipedia

Wikipedia is a multilingual, web-based, free-content encyclopedia project based on an openly editable model. The name "Wikipedia" is a portmanteau of the words wiki (a technology for creating collaborative websites, from the Hawaiian word wiki, meaning "quick") and encyclopedia. Wikipedia's articles provide links to guide the user to related pages with additional information.

KIPP

KIPP, the Knowledge Is Power Program, is a national network of free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public schools with a track record of preparing students in underserved communities for success in college and in life. There are currently 109 KIPP schools in 20 states and the District of Columbia serving more than 33,000 students.

Amped for Education

Amped for Education was founded in 2009 with the goal of expanding education in developing countries. We began our work in Nicaragua with the construction of a high school in 2012, and we have continued to support the school's students and their community. Our goal is to fund, construct and open another larger learning center next year that will be able to assist a larger amount of high school students. To support our work in Nicaragua, we lead groups of volunteers to the country and provide a memorable experience working on community projects and exploring the country.

The School of Open will provide online educational resources and professional development courses on the meaning and impact of “openness” in the digital age and its benefit to creative endeavors, education, research, and beyond. Individuals and organizations will learn how to use free technology and tools, such as Creative Commons licenses, to achieve their goals. Participants will also learn how to overcome barriers they run into everyday due to legal or technical restrictions.
